The 29th installment of Ryan Hemsworth‘s Secret Songs series is a sentimentally beautiful gem called “Since U Asked” created by songsmith Jon Lawless A.K.A. Swim Good featuring Anna Horvath of Merival on vocals, as well as collaborative assistance from Darren Seltmann of the Avalanches, Torq from Stars, and Joel Karlsson of Air France. Together their song focuses on eclectically mixing different genres of R&B, bedroom pop, indie, and folk and blending it all together with the right amount of feel good electronic samples. Made to be aurally addictive, the instrumental buildup that comes in around the 1:30 mark will be sure to make any listener smile and want to repeat this over and over.

When Jon Lawless wrote about the inspiration behind the song, he said:

“You know when someone asks how you’re doing
and you can’t help but give a super honest answer??
This song is about the highs and lows of that.”

“One glimpse is all it takes to tell you that Music Is Art is something special. You can start by judging this blog by its cover—it’s one of the best-designed, most aesthetically aware music blogs around—but there’s much more to it than just a pretty template. For one, Danielle, the “dreamer/designer” behind MIA, focuses not only on excellent music, but on art, photography and writing and how they all intersect and inform the music. By sharing the sounds and sights that inspire her, she’s inspiring a growing number of readers on a daily basis. By documenting artists’ creative processes, she’s, in the process, creating a pretty substantial, always-evolving work of art herself.” - Nerd Litter
