marilyn monroe

marilyn monroe was one of the most popular movie stars of the 1950s.  although, her life didn’t come easy while she grew up in california foster homes during her entire childhood.  while working for an airplane company, a photographer discovered her potential to be a professional model.  after being known on every magazine cover, a talent scout signed her to a measly 6 month screen contract and told her to change her name from a plain norma jean to a commercial marilyn monroe.

over the years, she won rave movie reviews and became very successful; however, after receiving stereotypical roles, her distaste for the celebrity life began. at the young age of 36, it was presumed that marilyn died of a probable suicide. saddened by her loss, forever, she will always be known as a beautiful icon.

You have beaten me, broken my neck, knocked my teeth out. You’ve drugged me for years, dragging me up and down prison hallways, laying my head on every chopping block you’ve got in this state; chained me, burnt me, but you cannot defeat me. All you can do is destroy yourselves with your own judgments.

charles manson

charles manson sits in a jail cell today and will for the rest of his life for being responsible as a murderer.   growing up in ohio, charles was traded from place to place, and as much as he ran back home to his alcoholic mother, she always rejected him.  a familiar face to early days of prison, he was often charged for car theft, larceny and the prostitution of underaged girls.  during most of his jail time, charles was taught guitar by a fellow inmate.  when released, he moved to san francisco where he fell in love with a librarian, lived in her home and invited eighteen other women to stay there too. together they all travelled the west coast in an original hippy bus and became known as the manson family.

while travelling, a few of the manson family ladies went hitchhiking and dennis wilson of the beach boys drove them back to his pacific palisades home.  charles appeared on the property with the rest of his manson followers, acted as servants and stayed at dennis wilson’s for the next few months, costing him over a hundred thousand dollars. often charles played his guitar and jammed, making impressions on music business friends that welcomed him into the recording studio to create an album.  dennis enjoyed one of the songs cease to exist so much, that he rewrote it for the 1969 beach boys album 20/20 and was awarded a gold record.

charles manson established his own headquarters on two ranches in california’s death valley from his music connections. he became obsessed with the beatles white album, declaring their writing was the complete soul of his operation because he felt the meaning was about the danger of black & white social turmoil. inspired to name his home, the yellow submarine and as the manson family waited for their delusional apocalypse, helter skelter; charles felt he was being directed by the beatles to make even better music and spent most of his time writing songs.

excited about what he was creating, charles arranged for producer terry melcher to visit and hear his work, but instead terry never arrived. outraged, charles travelled to melcher’s old residence which by that time unknowingly belonged to hollywood’s sharon tate and roman polanski.  while on their property, charles got into an altercation with a friend of tate’s and went back to death valley, told his manson family that it was time to destroy everything surrounding them that wasn’t worthy of living.  after his followers joined together and cascaded inside a gruesome bloody chaos, charles was convicted of the whole conspiracy.

recorded in 1968 and not released until after his imprisonment in 1970, lie: the love and terror cult was shared in hopes of funding charles manson’s legal defense.

“I picked the name, Marilyn Manson, as the fakest stage name of all to say that this is what show business is, fake. Marilyn Monroe wasn’t even her real name, Charles Manson isn’t his real name, and now, I’m taking that to be my real name. But what’s real? You can’t find the truth, you just pick the lie you like the best. As long as you know everything’s a lie, you can’t hurt yourself.”

marilyn manson

while living in florida at the age of eighteen, brian warner loved to create his own poems, art and write music articles for the local newspaper.  when he received the chance to interview trent reznor of nine inch nails, trent took a complete liking to brian and what he had to offer, later sponsoring and producing marilyn manson’s first three albums on the nothing label.

over the years, manson shared controversial messages in ways most never seemed to comprehend and to his own liking, people’s reactions seemed fitting.  cloaked in their own personal reasoning, fellow fans truly fell in love with his underrated musical genius. many non-believers still see all his terms of anti-christian, satanism and masochosist behaviors as everything he represents; however, in retroflection those being led in darkness, really just prove manson is shedding some light.

Do we know that it is actually Marilyn Monroe singing in those songs? I was always under the impression that she was dubbed by a professional singer.

hey matt… hope this helps :)

“According to Marni Nixon, the studio initially wanted Marilyn Monroe’s entire voice dubbed, as they thought her voice was silly. Nixon thought that was “awful”, as she felt Monroe’s voice suited her persona so beautifully. Nixon told The New York Times in March 2007 that she ended up only dubbing a single line of Monroe’s singing during the whole movie: the lyrics “These rocks don’t lose their shape” in the song “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.” [source:: imdb.com]
