When courage strikes we’ll come out
From waiting around with our heads down
Turn me to the sky
Turn me upside down
I wait to feel the life
The life that’s mine

If you have been reading any of my posts over the span of the last few months, you already know how much Jimmy Gnecco and Ours mean to me. I first heard them while living in Pennsylvania during the summer of 2001. That was a very good summer for me, personally, and I guess it’s just a coincidence that I would find my absolute favorite songwriter during this time.

I am like a big strong cable
I am like a girl, soft inside
Finally today, I’m able
To put you in the ground
I’ll meet you in the ground

Jimmy is such a real performer. He puts everything out there. He never holds back, and he shares his entire soul with you when you listen to him. To celebrate that, and to simply share some more musical magic, I give you an acoustic EP that I ran across recently. This is from the “Distorted Lullabies” era, which means it was probably recorded in 2000 or 2001. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Ours live three different times, and I’ve gotten a chance to speak with Jimmy two of those times. His soul is so warm, he literally glows. I implore you all to experience his live show. Please enjoy these songs, and share your feelings about this man and his awe-inspiring music.

The mirror fell and I
May as well have been blind
The days passing like hours
I’ll meet you in the Tower
If they can dream then why can’t I?

About The Author

“One glimpse is all it takes to tell you that Music Is Art is something special. You can start by judging this blog by its cover—it’s one of the best-designed, most aesthetically aware music blogs around—but there’s much more to it than just a pretty template. For one, Danielle, the “dreamer/designer” behind MIA, focuses not only on excellent music, but on art, photography and writing and how they all intersect and inform the music. By sharing the sounds and sights that inspire her, she’s inspiring a growing number of readers on a daily basis. By documenting artists’ creative processes, she’s, in the process, creating a pretty substantial, always-evolving work of art herself.” - Nerd Litter

Thank you for this, I had not heard their music before reading your post. But after listening to the songs I just had to buy the album and it’s sounding great so far.
