ray lamontagne :: pompano beach, fl

i just got to get me somewhere
somewhere that i can feel free
get me out of new york city
new york city’s killing me

mp3: ray lamontagne – new york city’s killing me [2010]

last thursday evening of november 5th, 2010, the south florida rain kept on pouring so hard that it was wondered if the ray lamontagne show at the pompano beach amphitheater would be canceled. however, nothing seemed to stop the fans from coming into the outside venue to see the show. like magic just as ray went on stage, the night sky seemed to stop the rain and the air became so crisp and cool, while ray’s voice echoed almost too perfectly, sounding just like a recording, although you knew it was real.

being able to witness ray lamontagne perform live in that rainy setting was very special. his songs had a soft tone to them and his poetic lyrics gave so much emotion towards love and relationships, but deep beneath it all – he sang with a true passion and heartbreak. some call his music country, folk, rock, however no genre seemed to matter with a voice like his. as he sang “new york city’s killing me”, it was easy to understand every word he shared. ray lamontagnes’s band the pariah dogs were pros, playing their instruments as a whole so tight, seeming as if they had been playing together for years. familiar songs like “let it be me”, “you are the best thing” and “trouble” made the eclectic audience of young to old happy during each track, as they screamed, cried, and gave standing ovations.
