Science Fiction/Double Feature
at a deadly pace
it came from outer space
and this is how the message ran..

every halloween it seems quite fitting to find the cult classic rocky horror picture show gracing your cable station repeatedly during the countdown towards the haunted holiday.  by blending science fiction into sexuality, bewilderment was the kind of word to use when the rocky horror picture show musical world of flamboyant and transsexual fantasies truly came to their provocative reality.

back in 1973, richard o’brien wrote the british storyline and shared the rocky horror picture show as a theatrical broadway experience.  however, after a few years of fast success, a movie executive finally purchased the screenplay and created it into the 1975 famous movie that marked the introduction of then new-coming actors tim curry, susan sarandon, meatloaf and barry bostwick.

Time Warp
with a bit of a mind flip
you’re into the time slip
and nothing can ever be the same
you’re spaced out on sensation
like you’re under sedation
let’s do the time warp again!

although its important to see the movie and gain an idea of what the crazy mayhem is all about, the most ideal situation to understand the rocky horror picture show in all its glory is to actually attend one of its local theatrical showings as there’s nothing quite like it. based in mostly every city, fans come out at midnight decorated in full cast apparel of drag, lingerie, fishnets, red lipstick, maid costumes and every type of disguise to resemble their favorite characters from the film.

known not to be made for the faint of heart or those with shy reservations,  attendees are expected to dress provocatively, scream obscenities and throw things at people.  according to many venues who share this exhilarating and interactive experience, there is a whole list of props and etiquette to be brought to each excursion.  in some places not all theatres are alike and rules are different for each showing, but nonetheless, the anticipating audience, even the rocky horror picture show virgins, truly all seem to know how to participate and enjoy.

Nick Cave and Neko Case covers the Zombies

Monday, June 27th, 2011

Greetings from California! It’s been a little bit of a traumatic start to a new life out here in the Wild West but things are actively moving closer to the ways I’ve always wanted them to be. I have been pursuing my love of making jewelry for my line Couture by Lolita, and have been busy freelance writing for a few special Hollywood interviews soon to be published in the Summer 2011 issue of Fault Magazine!

It’s nice to be in a new city and going for everything that I love as I feel it’s the only true way to enjoy your life. Please excuse my length of absence as cross country relocations, sometimes can lead to blocked creativity. As I’m on the hunt for a place to live here in Los Angeles (anyone know anyone who has a place available in any part of California?), I’ve come to learn what it really means to be apart of such a fast paced and overwhelming city. It’s hard to see the beauty in such a place of industry but by pushing that all aside, it’s realized that your not really here for the scenery, you’re here to create your life. Everyone seems to have similar dreams of becoming the next big movie actor or rock n’ roll star of Hollywood and for myself, I really just want to find my own true path of happiness. Maybe it’s here, maybe it’s not — but I’m definitely on the road to find out.

~*~

Nick Cave and Neko Case collaborated on the Zombies 1964 classic “She’s Not There“. The track was produced with Louisiana-based musician CC Adcock and together they all created a darker, New Orleans by Los Angeles influenced version, perfectly fitting as a soundtrack for HBO’s Season 4 premiere of True Blood. Enjoy!

robyn covers prince & alicia keys

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

After seeingRobyn perform live in concert two weeks ago in Miami, it’s been hard not to listen to her music all the time. Such an energetic show filled with a very small crowd, that really were so happy to be there. Recently Robyn created her very own bold take on Prince’s classic song “When Doves Cry” for BBC4′s “On Track with SEAT“, a show where artists record live sessions direct to vinyl at London’s Metropolis Studios.

Listen

Robyn – When Doves Cry (Prince Cover)

A true favorite is Robyn’s cover of Alicia Keys’ “Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart” which she performed as apart of NYC’s Summer IHeartRadio‘s video series. Heartfelt lyrics sound so perfect with the tone of her voice, even when she fumbles her words. Robyn makes it different than the original but never loses the song’s emotional integrity. In other words, pop music never sounded so good.

You’ve Got the Love

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Time after time I think “Oh Lord what’s the use?”
Time after time I think it’s just no good

Sooner or later in life, the things you love you lose
But you got the love I need to see me through

I love how sometimes you’ll play your ipod on shuffle and rediscover a song that sounds so good, that you can’t help but obsessively wear it out and repeat it over and over again for the next two days.

That is how Florence & the Machine‘s cover of Candi Staton’s “You Got the Love” has been for me.  There’s something so touching about the way Florence sings this song, it’s almost heartbreaking. Almost like she’s screaming for everyone no matter what race, sex, orientation you are.. it doesn’t matter, LOVE is important.

hospital beds

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

I’m going into the hospital tomorrow.
My white blood cells are very high, the doctors are unsure of what’s wrong, have told me it could be cancer :( I’m very scared… Please send your prayers and good thoughts, as I really need them right now.

Cover: Florence & the Machine – Hospital Beds

“Hospital Beds’ is a story of a couple older men that don’t know each other, stuck in a hospital room together. They find connections. They’re maybe going to die, but that’s not totally important, what’s important is that they find something where they thought there was nothing. ‘Put out the fire, boys’ is a way of saying hose me down, all this pain and ugliness, get rid of it, it’s on us.” – Source: Daytrotter
