Very much in-keeping with the philosophy behind this blog, is the Tate Modern‘s new venture: Tate Tracks, in which the gallery invite musicians to walk around and find a piece of art that inspires them to write a piece of music. That exclusive piece of music is then played through headphones beside the artwork, and a month later on the website. Check it out.
And just because they’re really really beautiful,
here are some tracks from Jeniferever.

a million eyes fallen from the sky

so they say justin roleof (of the anniversary) escaped one summer to the luscious bright colors of south america where he engaged in creating, dreaming and getting lost in peru. they all say when we travel we experience a whole side of ourselves that we know could have never been found without the ability to discover new ideas, places, feelings, details. and well it certainly seems that justin did just that taking back his memories to the state of kansas crafting them into his own new project called white flight. released on his co-label range life records, this debut makes you feel as if yr completely inside the twist & turns of a rambling but vividly excited mind.

it may be hard to stop pressing repeat on the song solarsphere. somehow its easy to picture this, sitting amongst a group of friends on the beach with a warm bonfire and lots of crazy 60s psychedelic silliness. maybe its those scattered piano keys at the end, the heavy off crashing of multi-layered strung out vocals harmonizing or when those drums come striking in strutting amongst the screaming of

where’s yr love gone?

[also enjoy the casio circus sideshow effect on the condition.

as ive said before and now ill say it again, blonde redhead‘s 1997 album *fake can just be as good* is one of those special albums that deserve repeated secret listening sessions. to only prove my point further, here’s a stellar live performance that’s been chaotically inside my headphones. theres these lil boosts of intense magical energy that they send through my veins, especially inbetween time signatures in a song like bipolar. [for example, 2:13 - 2:50]

my suggestion is to get inside a car, bus or train, go for a nice scenic fall road trip and let the music enrage, inspire and fuel you.

journey to the center of the earth

Tuesday, October 10th, 2006

it seems just right to be listening to eliot lipp during a season like the fall. the way daylight so quickly changes into night, watching the colors of dead leaves blend into one another, tasting the slight bitterness of cold wind on yr tongue. for many, autumn is considered a season of change and for myself, its my own private magic time.

originally from tacoma to los angeles to brooklyn.. eliot lipp makes lo-fi ambience full of electronic hip-hop carefully layered with 1970s sampled funk rhythms and raw, fragile synth riffs. theres so much thought gathered into these fresh beats as it seems almost too personal when the song completes. its amazing to find so much hidden inside unspoken silence and peculiar melody that makes a listener keep repeating until the longevity of the meaning is found. however, theres no direct destination or answer to be sought in eliot’s music, only the idea to get truly lost in the sound.

happy birthday, mr. lennon

Monday, October 9th, 2006

you are all geniuses and you are all beautiful
you don’t need anyone to tell you who you are
you are what you are
get out there and get peace, think peace, live peace, breathe peace, and you’ll get it as soon as you like

in liverpool england, john lennon was born on october 9, 1940.
he would have turned 66 today.

more than any other artist to date, john lennon spoke from the heart. constantly challenging himself, searching and externalizing the absolute vitality and fear of growing up, he used his life lessons turning them into personal creativity providing his own cathartic process that shared an honesty ahead of time.

god
…i just believe in me…

isolation
…i dont expect you to understand…

unzip my body, take my heart out

“be in love. i sound like joan collins, but you become quite beautiful when you’re in love.”

+++ roisin murphy +++

with the production of mastermind matthew herbert, the lead singer of the british duo moloko has created her debut album *ruby blue* with sultry submission and vivacious soulful energy. respectively incorporating different lil funk sounds and sedative otherworldly beats pulsating in numerous patterns repetitively, roisin murphy’s smoky vocals are complimented revealing another twisted and experimental side of herself completely.

life’s not over.

Monday, October 9th, 2006

the junior boys‘ second album *so this is goodbye* brings to mind the feeling of looking into a kaleidoscope; lightly turning it ever so gently to the right, watching different patterns emerge into one another while unexpected surprises swirl into abstract flashes of unforgettable bold and bright colors. without hesitation, jeremy greenspan and matthew didemus enjoy to share the invisible lines between soft warm harmonies, focused melodies, layered grooves and glittering synthlines. comfortably toned down to the canadian duo’s sense of elegant pop perfection, they highlight a sense of true melancholy submerged deep inside of seductive electronica.
