new york noise.

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2006

enjoy some old and new videos. over a year ago, while searching the tv for something worthwhile… the words *new york noise* appeared on my local ny cable station. every city should have one of these. ive been recording it ever since and while i dont like alot of tv, its very nice to occasionally have wonderful visual music pleasure that actually takes you away from yr everyday life.

some past newyorknoise favorites include cat power, laura veirs, doves, devendra banhart, regina spektor, the organ, pixies, postal service, cocorosie, múm, the national, telepopmusik.

good example: royksopp * remind me

wormisgreen present their 2003 debut album automagic, a reflection of the way you dream iceland to be; abstract contrasts, constant surprises, purple sunsets, shifting landscapes, quiet wide-open countrysides. from the label thule musik who first brought the world múm, their music can best be described as beautiful melodies sprinkled with ethereal vocals and intricate electronica constructions that create tranquil spaces where
you may lose yrself.

.sabrina ward harrison.

has written personal art journals for all the world to see.

spilling open: the art of becoming yourself and brave on the rocks: if you don’t go, you don’t see are two special favorite books. the beauty found in her abstract color collage drawings and clips of familiar quotations have truly taken over me. when asked the reason why, my reply is “becos its honest.”

“this is how artmaking is for me. the things i create come from found and forgotten stories and color, and spills and mistakes. and, sometimes from being tired, or sad, or feeling lost …in this big world. the creating is in the little forts of alone time in my studio and in my dreams. my art is the beginnings of conversations, questions, and notes to myself, all the things i wanted to remember. this is my life in progress. welcome inside.”

without-a-doubt, one of the cure‘s best albums is the beautiful and disturbing pornography.

their complex and entrancing approach seems to sensually dominate, blindfold and torture you
inside dark red fire, calming floods of rain, warm windy seas comforting repeating silently screaming

it doesn’t matter
if we all die

AZURE RAY

full of angelic whispers over atmospheric shades of cellos, violins and tribal percussion, maria taylor and orenda fink create intense music.

the first time i heard their voices harmonize, everything stopped and i cried. through the music, azure ray projects a quiet uncensored sadness resonating pure bright white light. the emotions are so raw that they instantly touch and nurture you.

their november ep is a must for anyone who is painfully aware.

i told them all, the ones i loved
im leaving and may not return

songs: no signs of pain, sleep, sea of doubts

bobdylan creates amazing poetry. the traditional gypsy song *one more cup of coffee* is no stranger to the land of genius.
back in 75, dylan once stated while working on his album ‘desire’ that he found his violin player while driving around nyc. he spotted an exotic looking woman with long hair walking around greenwich village, stopped and asked if she knew how to play, then took her back to the studio and subsequently on tour.

LOVAGE is part of mike patton’s 20 projects [faith no more, mr. bungle, fantomas].

with a lil help from patton’s friends nathaniel merriweather [handsome boy modeling school], jennifer charles [elysian fields] & kid koala, the album music to make love to yr old lady by is everything that its title represents and more.

together they have collaborated on something special that must be taken in slowly with an open-mind. many of the songs are charming charicatures of 1950s black & white sultriness – and give clever commentaries on alfred hitchcock films. the resulting vocal/lounge laments may be too smooth for some, but those with a sense of humor and a love of well-produced downtempo sounds will understand.

all i can do is think about being around friends
and smiling to this ~*~

oh i think we’re going faster
from the mountains to the pasture
just look at that scenery
its lovely
